It's no secret Ford wanted Sync to become a sought-after value add for consumers, but it's probably news even to The Blue Oval just how much its desires have come true. From 2008 to 2009 the company's revenue per unit climbed from about $22,900 to $26,100, a 14 percent increase. Ford's VP of product Derek Kuzak said a third of that, about $1,000 per car, was due to newly available tech options.

True, Sync alone could take credit, with offerings like MyTouch also bolstering Ford's image in the eyes of buyers. Kuzak said another portion of the increase was due to people simply opting for higher trim levels. But one-third of buyers are said to have been swayed by SYNC, making it a great lead-in to get them into a pricier option. Ford is expanding its MyTouch system to 80 percent of its line, and there's sure to be more where that came from.

Verizon's upcoming rebate form has surfaced, bringing with it lots of exciting (if expected) Android wares. What you see above is just a partial shot of what Engadget received. We clearly see the Droid 2 Global, which has a pair of SKUs, which they surmise may mean it'll get a cameraless version and not the Droid Pro. There's also the Samsung Continuum (see our hands-on), which will be unveiled Nov. 8 in New York City. The Motorola Citrus (see our hands-on) also is there.

So there's really little doubt that we'll see most if not all of these phones in November, and we now know that they'll all be rebated, so figure no more than $250 or so out of pocket. [Engadget]

Update: Phone Arena has posted the full rebate form. The LG Vortex -- that's a Bing phone we've seen before -- is on there as well.

The New York District Court, at the request of the RIAA, has forced LimeWire to shut down its network and cease distributing its software. TorrentFreak has the full story, and updates will surely follow as more data becomes available.

That a U.S. federal judge would finally grant RIAA's request comes as a numbing shock to the system. Perhaps the RIAA simply drew the right judge -- this is the same Judge Kimba Wood that found LimeWire guilty of copyright infringement back in May -- or maybe the lawsuit just snowballed in gravitas until it became unignorable.

For those of you that use BitTorrent, you might be surprised to hear that LimeWire is still most-installed P2P application with a market share of 37% -- uTorrent, by far the largest BitTorrent client, only has a 14% market share. If LimeWire really has been shut down -- and stays down -- this could affect the entire makeup of the Internet.

Driverless electric van expedition arrives in China - Click above for high-res image gallery

Back in July, a team of researchers from the European Research Council set out on an epic 8,000-mile journey from Italy to China through the Gobi desert. If that weren't daunting enough, the crew braved the trek in a pair of driverless electric vans. Believe it or not, the team just finished up their drive, and while researchers on board had to intervene a few times to handle traffic and toll booths, by and large the vehicles navigated to their destination without any help from human hands. Instead, they use a system called generic obstacle and lane detector, or GOLD, along with a series of solar-powered laser sensors to determine the van's proximity to surrounding traffic.

The vans ran at a top speed of 38 mph to maximize battery life, but the real reason that the trip took so long is that the vehicles had to be charged eight hours for every two hours of driving. The researchers say that the data they collected over the trek could be used in everything from mining to construction to augmenting driver abilities.
